It appears as though the press, along with any number of governmental agencies, have collectively decided that giving attention to spree killers encourages other acts of violence. This is inaccurate. The notion that spree killers are motivated by the attention they receive in the press derives from the press’ sense of its own self importance. Government agencies appear to be censoring because of a similiarly flawed political ideology. The press is so used to making or breaking people by giving or not giving attention, that they have concluded that if they don’t give spree killers attention then future killers won’t act out. Killers are NOT primarily motivated by the attention they receive in the press. In fact, I believe the fact that the Seattle killer, for example, was taken alive was ONLY because of the heroics of a young man who took it upon himself to intervene. The vast majority of spree killers, as I have described elsewhere, are intent upon going down in a blaze of glory. They do NOT picture in their head the press talking about them. Spree killers are devout "victims." They feel, to the person, that the world, society, women, fate or what have you, have done them wrong. The "victim complex" is an artifact of the killer's personal psychology. However, victimhood in American culture is epidemic and has increased over the past decade. This epidemic of pervasive victimhood is the consequence of political operatives. Some political operatives have cultivated a vote getting scheme that relied upon promoting the notion of "social injustice." Social injustice, as a concept, relies upon refocusing citizen's attention FROM equal opportunity TO equal outcomes. The vote getting part of the scheme derives from the politician's promise to restore social justice IF, that is, you vote for me. What occurs, however, is that the promise of equality fails to cure the sense of victimhood created by those same politicians. The anger that builds up will eventually boil over and BANG, you have another spree killer acting out against the objects and symbols of his victimhood. Coverage of virtually all major news stories, including coverage of spree killers, functions like one big Rorschach (Ink Blot) test. When someone tells you what they see in the card they are projecting onto the card their own personal psychology. Thus, one person may see two dancing bears and yet another person, looking at the same card, may see two men engaged in a life or death struggle. I don’t ever do that. I don’t project upon the situation my own psychology. A forensic specialist cannot project his or her own psychology upon a situation for very long and continue to be employed. I PREDICTED that there would likely be acts of violence after the Elliot Rodger (Santa Barbara) spree killings on Channel 10 News (ABC affiliate in San Diego). I knew this would occur NOT because of the copy-cat phenomenon, but because as I have said: “There are tens of thousands of rage filled men who are reaching their breaking point in American society.” Why is this so? 1. Mental health: Here is an excerpt from a book I wrote entitled The Progressive Virus. It was published 2 years ago: "Mental disorders, not orthopedic, neurological disorders or heart disease and cancer, are the leading cause of disability in the U.S. and Canada. [1] An estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older — about one in four adults — suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year.[2] When applied to the 2004 U.S. Census residential population estimate for ages 18 and older, this figure translates to 57.7 million people.[3] Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time.

“In 2009, there were nearly 4.6 million drug-related ED visits nationwide. These visits included reports of drug abuse, adverse reactions to drugs, or other drug-related consequences. Almost 50 percent were attributed to adverse reactions to pharmaceuticals taken as prescribed, and 45 percent involved drug abuse. DAWN estimates that of the 2.1 million drug abuse visits—

27.1 percent involved nonmedical use of pharmaceuticals (i.e., prescription or OTC medications, dietary supplements)

21.2 percent involved illicit drugs 14.3 percent involved alcohol, in combination with other drugs. ED visits involving nonmedical use of pharmaceuticals (either alone or in combination with another drug) increased 98.4 percent between 2004 and 2009, from 627,291 visits to 1,244,679, respectively. ED visits involving adverse reactions to pharmaceuticals increased 82.9 percent between 2005 and 2009, from 1,250,377 to 2,287,273 visits, respectively.

The majority of drug-related ED visits were made by patients 21 or older (80.9 percent, or 3,717,030 visits). Of these, slightly less than half involved drug abuse. Patients aged 20 or younger accounted for 19.1 percent (877,802 visits) of all drug-related visits in 2009; about half of these visits involved drug abuse.”[5] [1] The World Health Organization. These killers I have profiled are brooding, ruminating and easily slighted. They have minds like “hoarders” in that the insults they suffer (like all of us) and their imagined insults, are never discharged, they simply accumulate. So, like a pressure cooker absent a relief valve, they will eventually blow up. 3. The social engineering of artificially high self esteem. All children, since Kindergarten, have been brainwashed to believe that they are ALL budding geniuses, they are super special, fabulous, will become rich, famous, great. In fact, they are socially engineered to EXPECT to be great. We call this “Entitlement." To reinforce this social engineering, children can never “win” or “lose.” They are all winners. Teachers are forbade to correct papers using red ink because the color red is too harsh. Everyone gets a trophy, everyone gets a gold star. Result: Reality is perceived to be an abomination to the artificially high self esteemed child turned adult. If you raise children to BELIEVE AND EXPECT to have EVERYTHING that is the best, then when life doesn’t shower it upon them, they ALL feel that they are victims of an unjust world. By the way, the research data are conclusive and crystal clear: Bullies have exceptionally high self esteem. Killers have exceptionally high self esteem. They are NOT the insecure or timid, they are those people who were brainwashed to believe that they are GREAT and, therefore, are ENTITLED to have the best. Here is an excerpt from "Virus" on this subject: Competition was tempered or non-existent for Millennials. They played in little league baseball where there were no winners or losers and everyone got a trophy at the end of the season. Girls and boys were homogenized to the point where any differences were presumed to be purely psychological, not biological. It is a generation that found some parents raising their children as gender neutral, that is, no his or hers, pink or blue, trucks or dolls, dresses or pants, short or long hair. Sexuality is viewed as pleasure with no responsibility. School teachers find it perfectly normal to act like the children they are teaching. Long gone are the students who feel insecure or lack self-esteem or self-assertion skills. Millennials have been, since they were old enough to talk, treated as though their opinions on complex issues of life, death, economics and values are just as valuable and meaningful as a 50 year-old war veteran with a family who is signing the checks that pay for their lifestyle. Millennials have lived in a self-indulgent world where the only discipline they received, if you can call it discipline, was a “time out” from their digital devices when they failed to perform. They are, for the most part, adrift in a sea of non-attachment, save for their “friends” on Facebook or other social media. They not only have no allegiance to their country, they are more likely to blame America first for any perceived inequity in outcomes. Religion is likely to be perceived as myth and in its place we find a blind adherence to the religion of the environment and pure adoration for self. The harsh reality is that despite having been indoctrinated, and despite laboring under the belief that they define reality, the objective realities of life are beginning to challenge Millennials who were poisoned by flawed reasoning. 4. Women’s mating behavior/Victimhood: This deadly pair comprises the fourth ingredient. Women's mating behavior impacts the YOUNGER DESELECTED MALE SYNDROME and Victimhood is especially important in older spree killers. Like the other 3 ingredients, listed above, women’s mating is not a sufficient cause, but it is a factor. Women, like men, are motivated by their brain stems, not necessarily by their cortex. Sexuality and mating behavior is governed by the brain stem because mother nature does not leave something so important as sex (procreation of life itself) to the whims of culture or society. This is why so many otherwise smart and accomplish men have done some exceedingly stupid and dangerous things when it comes to sex, e.g., Bill Clinton, Elliot Spitzer, et al. Women SAY they want a nice guy, but the reality is, the “Bad Boy” is what turns them on (if heterosexual, of course). Bad boys may be displaying a gene pool that is, from mother nature’s point of view, more viable and strong. Here are just 3 out of 1,500 scientific studies that confirm this phenomenon: Deselcted males are not "bad boys," they are "incompetent boys." Virtually always physically unattractive and socially awkward. Now put all the ingredients together, like you are making a Quiche, and you have unattractive, nerdy, nebbish boys and men who were raised to believe that they could have the most, in fact ARE ENTITLED TO HAVE the most beautiful of the beautiful girls, be rich, be famous be GREAT. These people have been encouraged by politicians and ideologues to FEEL the social injustice manifest by the haves versus the have nots. Beautiful women and social enterprises deselect these men with a ruthless efficiency. Elliot Rodger may as well have quoted directly from my writings and interviews when he said that “I am intelligent, I’ve traveled the world, I am great…but these beautiful blonds reject me for the jerks and losers." The Seattle killer's ambition outstripped his abilities and the Georgia courthouse terrorist harbored a deep sense of victimhood. So now, because of the neuropsychological inability to feel for and with another person (These killers do NOT have the biological capacity to feel other people’s pain, fear, distress or misery). In fact, due to their particular genetic makeup, they ENJOY other people’s misery. (I know, sick, very sick). They brood, they watch others having a good time, they seethe with anger, they hate, they feel victimized by an unjust world, especially against beautiful women and those popular boys they hang around with. The "haves" didn't earn what they have, they victimized him in order to succeed. That is how they feel. Finally, there is some precipitating event that sets them off. We almost always find the straw that broke the camel’s back, e.g., a dirty look from someone, a drug induced hangover, feeling bad or any one of a million things that could trip the trigger and BANG! You have another spree killing that results in every pundit with access to the media the opportunity to project upon the Rorschach card with their OWN psychology and pontificate to the entire world. If it is NPR it will typically be those nasty guns and nasty men If it is the conservative cable news types it will be “the violent video games, Hollywood, or President Obama.” If it is the “shock jock” then it's the “whores” If it is one of these counselor or social worker types then it is not enough love and too much bullying. All of them are wrong, dead wrong. I repeat, if spree killers are older men (reduced testosterone) they typically will target symbols of their victimhood. Yes, they feel like they are victims because the notion of "social injustice" is epidemic the result of political types who have found that by promoting the notion of "social injustice" they can garner votes from citizens who have foresaken personal responsibility for being a victim in a world of social injustice. So government institutions, banks, courthouses, whatever symbol represents the source of the killer's victimhood is targeted. We can't at this point in science alter genetics. But we can stop socially engineering perma-victimhood and "social injustice" as an excuse for not having the best. We can STOP socially engineering artificially high self esteem in our children....turned adults. We should promote humility, hope and confidence, not "I am God's gift to the world." Killers are NOT insecure, they are arrogant, high esteemed, entitled, mean and unfeeling people. Winning elections at the expense of citizen's mental health is a disastrous political ploy. And before you go about socially engineering and remaking society, you should learn a little bit about the law of unintended consequences and a little concept known as "blowback." Dr. A.
